Description

The catalog of the first exhibition dedicated to Metal music in France, from April 5 to September 29, 2024 at the Philharmonie de Paris

For fifty years, metal has resisted all its transformations. Decade after decade, it conquers new audiences and reinvents itself, drawing on both popular art and classical aesthetics.
The first exhibition dedicated to the genre in France, Metal, Diabolus in Musica will be on display at the Philharmonie de Paris from April to September 2024, providing a comprehensive overview of the movement, a dialogue between music, popular culture, and anthropological and artistic visions. Contrary to the caricatures to which metal is often reduced, the exhibition explores its codes and the richness of its myths.

An extension of the exhibition but also and above all a reference work on a music with many facets, this richly illustrated and meticulously produced catalogue (marbling, textured cover and metallic iron, 8-page leaflet) brings together specialists and big names from the scene around the exhibition curators: Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Max Cavalera (Soulfly), Seth Anton (Septicflesh), Nergal (Behemoth), Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast), illustrator Eliran Kantor, artists Élodie Lesourd and Chloé Trujillo and comic book author Damien MacDonald; as well as sociologists Deena Weinstein and Gérôme Guibert, doctoral student in modern literature Sixtine Audebert and the Hard Rock Café’s director of collections, Chase McCue.

Afterword by Mario Duplantier (Gojira).
