Baltic Photography Album “Atgimstanti Lietuva” Zenonas Polis – 1989 Soviet-Era Independence Book

Description

Capture a profound moment of Northern European geopolitical history with **”Atgimstanti Lietuva”** (Rebirthing Lithuania), a magnificent 1989 landscape monograph by celebrated master photographer **Juozas Polis** (1920–2011).

Published by the *Mintis* press in Vilnius precisely as the Iron Curtain was beginning to dissolve, the title of this book directly echoes the *Atgimimas* (The Awakening)—the mass national movement that led to the restoration of Baltic independence. Bypassing rigid Soviet industrial documentation rules, Polis took to the skies to document the unedited, organic beauty of his homeland. Through deep, saturated vintage color tones, the oversized plates capture the sweeping majesty of the Nemunas and Neris river bends, historic castle mounds hidden in low morning mists, and ancestral village architectures.

More than just a geographical survey, this 1989 first edition serves as a powerful visual declaration of a nation reclaiming its cultural identity and natural heritage.
