An Independent Archive of Photography and Visual Culture
Decadence Books is a research-driven initiative dedicated to documenting photography publications that explore body representation, identity, erotic aesthetics, and visual subcultures.
Many of these works were produced in limited editions, distributed through independent networks, or circulated outside institutional contexts. As a result, they remain insufficiently documented despite their artistic and cultural significance.
The project approaches printed publications as historical artifacts — objects that reflect artistic experimentation, publishing practices, and broader social transformations. Through systematic documentation, contextual research, and public dissemination, the archive contributes to the preservation and understanding of contemporary visual culture.
Developed in Lithuania and oriented toward an international audience, the initiative aims to create an accessible resource for researchers, artists, collectors, and the public while supporting long-term cultural memory.
